facebook IPO: What I would invest in if I was Zuckerberg

facebook has now been around for 8 years and made a tremendous impact on how we perceive social connections and act upon them in our daily life. facebook is becoming ubiquitous and is changing the way we interact with others ever more. Now it is not socially accepted to not have a profile on fb if you’re of the younger generation. In the upcoming fb IPO, the company hopes to raise at least $5b. This seems low and the IPO will probably be oversubscribed many times, making it hard for most people…See More

The Insanity of the What-by-When

When you agree to take an action, do you also give others a commitment of when you’ll do it by (the so-called “what-by-when”)?  As much as this practice is generally recommended in today’s business world, allow me to offer a contrary view: This practice has big downsides, and obscures a better way that comes from an altogether different paradigm. The alleged benefit of routinely asking for or offering a “what-by-when” upon agreeing to do an action is simple and straightforward:  It increases…See More

GTD in 9 easy steps

I gave a lecture yesterday, and as I was starting to speak I looked out and saw faces consumed with fatigue and stress.  It’s finals time, and the students are suffering.  So, rather than talk about what I had planned, I switched gears and gave an impromptu lesson on Getting Things Done, which I’ve covered here.I was shooting from the hip, and was afraid I’d dumb it down too much, but I think that by taking this quick approach it may have resulted in people actually attempting to take the…See More

How to fight piles of files - or the 6 rules of filing

“Why is it that paper and stuff keep piling up on my desk?”, I wondered. After starting to process my stuff like I’ve read in David Allen’s book “Getting Things Done” years ago, I realized my workflow was askew and somewhat not working properly. “Filing stuff should be fun and easy” – Allen writes. After some time of self-analysis and objective observation, I found that the…See More

Hi Goran,

very interesting your Tips (5 Quick-Start Tips to Help Improve Your Writing)!

Surely, the best way to speak, to talk and to write as well as to read any text or expression is having them as short as possible. As we can imagine, time is money. More we explain anything clearly with a short expression "in straight way", more we produce an excellent communication and surely we have more positive result in a short time to any work and we have more available time to work. In other speech, excellent communication brings positive result from work and having more work with much available time!

Hi Goran
Yep .. unless you do your weekly review and daily have in front of you a way of prioritising things ... then I guess I agree tools can be a distraction, however I have found the outlook add-in reliable as a single trusted repository and hence have incorporated into my tailoring of GTD.
- I practice inbox zero daily.
- As I chuck stuff that happens into the tasks list pile (Categorising as I go) via my iphone or tablet pc and synch the two over the air, when the task list battle hots up I feel I am still lacking a tool to help with a quick view of my priorities without requireing a 30 minute to 1 hour weekly GTD review .....
I have used Gyronix ResultsManager for MindManger to sweep through new tasks and id "next action required" but the performance is appalling for a quick 2 minute in the trench planing check of "Am I working on the highest priority thing now?" plus it only works on my tablet pc. Any ideas on my predicament?
